Biography
Maddalena Willis is a fine artist whose work is deeply influenced by her diverse background in dance, geology, and Italian culture. Growing up in the mountains of Midway, Utah, she developed a keen interest in observing and interpreting the complexities of the world around her. Her early dance training, guided by her mother—a professional ballerina—instilled in her both discipline and a deep appreciation for artistic expression.
Completing her BFA in Painting with a Minor in Earth Science at Utah Valley University, Maddalena is an honors student and an art gallery intern. Her academic excellence has been recognized with the Dean’s Distinguished Student Award. Looking ahead, Maddalena is preparing to apply to MFA programs, aiming to further develop her artistic practice and expand her exploration of interdisciplinary mediums.
Maddalena primarily works with oil paint on large canvases, creating evocative and textured compositions. Her practice also extends to batik making, photography, performance art, and the use of found objects, allowing her to explore a wide range of artistic expressions. At the core of her artistic philosophy, Maddalena challenges the false self, seeking to strip away its layers in pursuit of authenticity. Through her work, she invites others to look within, confront limitations, and embrace deeper, more genuine connections—with themselves and with others.
